Hyperteksti

Hyperteksti on tietokoneissa käytetty käyttöliittymäperiaate,
joka mahdollistaa automaattiset hyperlinkeiksi kutsutut
ristiviittaukset eri dokumenttien välillä. Kun käyttäjä valitsee
hyperlinkin, tietokone hakee lyhyellä aikaviiveellä viitatun
dokumentin.

Hypertekstidokumentit voivat olla staattisia eli etukäteen
valmiiksi tehtyjä tai dynaamisia, jolloin ne muuttuvat käytön
yhteydessä. Tietoverkko voi mahdollistaa hypertekstin lukemisen
ja muokkaamisen maailmanlaajuisesti. Tunnetuin
hypertekstipohjainen järjestelmä on Internetin WWW. Jos
Hypertekstissä on teksti- ja numeromuotoisen tiedon lisäksi
äänitiedostoja, grafiikka ja liikkuvaa kuvaa, sitä sanotaan
hypermediaksi.
